| Executive Summary |
|
Scientific advances have led to a technological revolution. Revolutions
in communications, computers, and travel have led to many upheavals in
our economy and society at large. These technological advances are causing
major changes within all organizations, both internally and externally. |
|
Techniques, concepts, and structures that worked very well in previous
times are failing in modern times. Much of this has been described in brilliant
and substantial detail by Alvin Toffler in his great book, The Third
Wave, and his subsequent book, Powershift. |
|
Our business organizations are finding the traditional methods and structures
that once served so well are failing in today's Third Wave economy. New
methods and management systems are demanded by the complex rapidly evolving
environment of today's businesses. |
|
This paper will present an outline of a new paradigm for managing organizations
in this new environment, called "Virtual Management" for reasons that will
become apparent. |
|
This paper is not a comprehensive treatment of the subject, but rather
a conceptual overview which should help a business leader determine the
situation in his or her current organization and point to potential directions
to proceed. |
|
All organizations are impacted by these revolutions. However, large companies
and rapidly growing companies are probably the most profoundly impacted.
If you are involved in the management of a rapidly growing company or a
large organization, you should find the concepts of this paper relevant
and applicable to your situation. |
